This is my first post in a long time. Since August, in fact. There is a question that has often been on my mind. What am I doing?
Just saw a great video on The Art of Manliness on the importance of actually putting activities down in your calendar to help you achieve things. I started doing this a couple of days ago, and have found it to be pretty useful….so far! Motivation is normally quite high when we just start something, but it will be interesting to see how long I can maintain the momentum. I am hoping that scheduling in things, doing the activity, and the sense of accomplishment will actually help build momentum.
I have been busy since my last blog post, when I just arrived in America. I was hoping to update my blog more regularly, but it seems I have been so absorbed in just arriving that I have put this off for a bit. OK, maybe more than just a bit – more like too long! I feel that some of my time has been well spent, but there are things I am doing that have not been good use of my time.
“In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” – Benjamin Franklin
Death. It is inevitable, and therefore something all living beings have to face. There are plenty of articles that discuss the top regrets when people face death. I find these perspective interesting as death seems so remote to me, being in my late twenties. However, although I understand in theory that I will die somebody, I believe that no one really believes it until it becomes an immediate reality. When people face death, they seem to get this amazing clarity of vision of how life should be lived.
“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” Steve Jobs
This has been my first update in a while. Although I am aiming to post regularly, there will be times where other actions take priority. As I have mentioned previously, moving to America is my number 1 priority at the moment. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been focussing on what truly matters to me by spending more time on activities that will help me accomplish that goal. It looks like that my efforts have started to pay off, and I can expect to move there over the next couple of months! As I am pleased with my progress, I thought I could take some respite to write a new post on my recent experiences with minimalism.
